What's the Difference?

Compare Direct Growers and Online Florists

Roses ordered from a Direct Grower are usually sent from a central location where they are boxed and sent to the recipient via a commercial shipper, usually Federal Express (FedEx) or United Parcel Service (UPS). This means they will deliver your flowers on the day following your order (or later if you elect UPS shipping). Because they don't have have to pay another florist to deliver your flowers, Direct Growers generally have lower prices than Online Florists. Roses ordered from an Online Florist require the florist taking your order to send your order to a local florist in the recipient's geographic area. The local florist then arranges your order, selecting flowers from their local inventory, then delivers the flowers to the recipient via the florist's local shipping method. This allows Online Florists to deliver your flowers on the same day that you place your order.

PRO - Direct Grower:

  • Less expensive

  • Flowers may be fresher when sent
  • Less likely to have substitions

PRO - Online Florist:

  • Same Day Delivery at no extra charge
  • Flowers can be delivered with a glass vase
  • A Florist will not leave the delivery outside unattended

CON - Direct Grower:

  • You cannot arrange for Sunday or Monday delivery
  • Additional fee for Saturday delivery
      (typically $10.00 extra)
  • Same Day Delivery not available
(usually delivery is Next Day via FedEx)
  • Shipper may leave the delivery outside unattended

CON - Online Florist:

  • More expensive
  • No control over flower freshness
  • Subject to local flower inventory
